Our filter needs to be run at list 7 – 8 hours per day to keep our pool clean. The best is to run the pool pomp between 30 to 60 minutes each time to make sour that it collects all the debris and fallen tree lives in to the pool.
To be efficient and saving energy I run the pomp approximately every two hours. As you know in Toronto we have different rate for hydro consumption during the days and weekends.
We need to get the advantage of sunlight and low rate hydro cost. The best optimize timing is to run 60 minutes during the day on the weekends and 30 minutes during the day on weekdays. Therefore we need a timer with at list 20 programming setting. Please be careful to choose a high power-handling timer with proper Amperes for your pomp.
I am using an NOVA timer that I bought from Canadian tire.
The following table is my programming setting for our pool pomp.
